PEORIA, Ill. – Arraignments were held Thursday in Peoria County Circuit Court on two local stabbing cases, one of which resulted in Attempted Murder charges being filed.
Alton Russell (pictured above), 54, pleaded not guilty to charges filed by a grand jury of Attempted Murder and Aggravated Domestic Battery.
The stabbing happened May first at a location near Devonshire Drive and Compton Court. The woman suffered serious injuries, and police say they had to taze Russell before he could be taken into custody.
Russell remains jailed on $300,000 bond. He is next scheduled for a hearing June 29th, ahead of a trial as soon as July 10th.
Also Thursday, Samuel Hicks (pictured left), 43, pleaded not guilty after a grand jury last week indicted him on a count of Aggravated Battery.
The stabbing happened at Hicks’ home near Frink and Columbia Terrace. Another man in the home was stabbed with a knife during an altercation but survived.
A trial in that case could happen as soon as December 11th.
