PEORIA, Ill. – Even though a brief break from the drought could happen in the next couple of days, local officials say any form of outdoor burning is a real bad idea.
Officials in nearby Fulton County, for example, have urged residents not to burn at all outside, including cookouts and the use of fireworks.
Here in Peoria, open burning is allowed, but the Peoria Fire Department says they “strongly recommend” against it, as vegetation is “very flammable” right now.
As for fireworks in Peoria, they’re banned, with the exception of party poppers, snappers, toy caps, snake/glow worms, smoke generating devices, and handheld sparklers. But, they say even those could spark fires given how dry grass is.
So, in other words, they say leave the “Red, White, and Boom” to the professionals – July 4th on the Peoria and East Peoria riverfronts.
