PEORIA, Ill. – The Peoria County State’s Attorney says a 14-year-old boy got killed Monday night because of a toy gun.
Tramier Pate, 23, faces a First-Degree Murder count for the death of Omarius Gates, and made a first court appearance Wednesday afternoon.
State’s Attorney Jodi Hoos says Gates was pronounced dead at the scene of the shooting near Richwoods and Mollek, marking Peoria’s tenth homicide of the year.
Hoos claims Pate had a gun to Gates’ back attempting to rob him of what turned out to be a toy gun made to look real, when Pate’s gun accidentally went off.
A bond hearing for Pate will be held a week from Thursday, as court records indicate he’s trying to hire a private attorney.
