CHICAGO, Ill. (FOX News) – A record 43.2 million Americans are expected to hit the roads this Independence Day, with many of them forced to do so because of the problems at our nation’s airports.
More than 9,000 flights were canceled across the country this week, leaving passengers unable to book for days, and more than 33,000 flights were also delayed.
Meanwhile, executives at airlines like JetBlue and United Airlines are blaming the FAA’s staffing shortages for the growing frustrations among fliers in what is likely just the start of a chaotic summer travel season.
One factor also encouraging drivers: gas prices have come down considerably from this time last year, when the national average was $4.85 a gallon. We’ll be on the road as millions make their way to celebrate the 4th of July.
Good news for people flying into and out of Peoria International Airport on Monday, according to flypia.com, all arrivals and departures were on-time Monday morning.
