PEORIA, Ill. – We’re learning more about what led up to Peoria’s 11th homicide of the year Thursday.
Peoria County State’s Attorney Jodi Hoos says in a weekend statement formal charges of First-Degree Murder, Aggravated Battery, and Possession of a Weapon by a Felon charges have been filed against Ronnie Simmons, 21.
Hoos says it started at a home near Madison and Spring, where Simmons had been playing dice with two other people, kept losing money, and leaving to get more.
The last time, Hoos says, Simmons attempted to rob them, said, “Give it up,” and opened fire.
That led to one man being injured, and Demetrious Davis, 25, dying at a local hospital.
Simmons is jailed on $1.5 million dollars bond. No word on his next court date.
