PEORIA, Ill – A former Maui Jim employee will go to prison for the better part of a year after pleading guilty earlier this year to a scheme that defrauded the company.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office says Erica Hornof, 36, Bradford, was sentenced Monday in federal court to twelve months and one day in prison after pleading guilty to multiple counts of mail fraud and wire fraud.
Hornof, while a Frame Repair Trainer at the Peoria Maui Jim facility, stole parts from the repair area to make sunglasses on her own, that she then sold and shipped to two website retailers, according to prosecutors.
Authorities say she sold nearly 3,000 pairs of sunglasses for an intended loss to Maui Jim of $749,000.
Hornof was ordered to pay more than $125,000 to Maui Jim in restitution, and could have received up to 20 years in prison.
