UPPER MAKEFIELD TWP., Pa. – Officials in Bucks County, Pennsylvania say they think they’ve found the body of one of the two children swept away by flood waters last weekend.
Upper Makefield Township Fire Chief Tim Brewer told reporters Friday night the body, found in water near a waste management plant, is believed to be that of Mattie Sheils, 2.
Brewer says the determination is based on what the young girl was wearing, and on physical description. Other testing is to be done to make a positive identification, Brewer said.
The body was found roughly 32 miles away from where she was first swept away.
Mattie’s brother, Conrad, is said to still be missing.
Shiels’ mother, Katie Seley, died when flash flooding rushed the vehicle she and two children were in July 15. Authorities said at the time there was no way the tragedy could have been avoided.
