CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – Drought levels in central Illinois and across the state are about the same as they were the week prior.
The latest U.S. Drought Monitor report released Thursday shows that all of Peoria and Woodford Counties are at a moderate level of drought. Nearly all of Tazewell County is also at a moderate level, apart from 0.16% of the southwestern portion of the county.
Surrounding counties are experiencing varying levels of drought. Marshall County is experiencing 67.42% of moderate drought, but the remaining portion is at an abnormally dry level.
Fulton County has severe levels of drought in 26.74% of the southern portion of the county, with the rest at a moderate level. A little more than half of Stark County, 57.6%, is at a moderate drought level, with the rest of the county in the northeastern portion at an abnormally dry level.
Across Illinois, levels did not change much. 14.63% of the state is at a severe drought level, up around 1.6% in the last week. 65.64% is at a moderate level, down about 0.6% from the week prior. And 96.26% of the state is abnormally dry, up about 0.4% from last week.
The severe drought conditions are being seen along the northern stateline with Wisconsin, portions of west-central Illinois, and southwestern Illinois.
Numbers could see some change next week due to extreme heat across Illinois, as well as forecasted storms for the weekend.
