PEORIA, Ill. – The heat is to blame for a Peoria woman’s death.
Coroner Jamie Harwood says Henrietta Moore, 53, had chronic and pre-existing health problems that were exacerbated by the heat and caused her death at Lexington Hills Apartments around noon Thursday.
Harwood says Moore’s electricity was shut off July 7, so she didn’t have air conditioning.
There are resources locally for people looking to stay cool in the extreme heat.
Peoria city-owned buildings are available as cooling centers, including the lobby of the Peoria Police Department at 600 Southwest Adams Street from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Peoria fire stations are open as cooling centers from 7 a.m. until 10 p.m., but visitors will be asked to step out of the building during fire-related emergencies.
Fire station addresses can be found on the department’s website.
In East Peoria, a cooling center is open at Civic Plaza at 401 West Washington Street Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., Friday 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
