TOULON, Ill. – The State’s Attorney in Stark County says the shooting death of a man back in February by deputies trying to arrest him was justified.
That’s the finding of a report issued Friday by State’s Attorney Caroline Campion involving the February 18th death of Rodney Williams, 66.
A Special Operations Squad from Henry County went to Williams’ apartment in Toulon to conduct a search warrant, but authorities said Williams swung a machete at them, causing them to shoot and kill Williams.
Campion says Williams did not drop the machete despite repeated orders, so the shooting was necessary in order to protect officers’ safety.
Williams was pronounced dead at an area hospital.
