SEATTLE – At least five people are hurt following a shooting outside a Safeway convenience store Friday night.
FOX-TV station KCPQ reports the shooting happened around 9:15 p.m. in the city’s Ranier Beach neighborhood.
It happened during what was described as a “community street feed event,” hosted by a local Boys and Girls Club.
One person is said to be in a hospital in critical conditions. One was treated and released, while another was treated at the scene.
Police believe two people did the shooting, and are wanted.
“This act of gun violence at an outreach event meant to be a safe place for South Seattle neighbors is appalling and unacceptable,” said Bruce Harrell, Mayor of Seattle, on X, formerly Twitter. “There are too many guns in hands where they do not belong, and we can never accept this violence as a normal fact of life.”
We must be relentless in our efforts to end gun violence and support an environment of safety and healing in our communities. That requires a holistic approach to this epidemic – law enforcement, community-based solutions, and stronger pathways for prevention and intervention.
