PEORIA, Ill. – Former Arkansas Governor and former GOP presidential candidate Mike Huckabee is coming to Peoria next week.
He’s slated to be the keynote speaker for the Salvation Army Women’s Auxiliary fundraiser on Thursday (September 14).
The theme for the evening, Huckabee says, is “There’s No Living…Without Giving.”
“The concept is, we don’t really know how to live, until we learn how to give. We were not designed by the creator to receive, as much as we were designed to give. And, it’s when we give things away, that we give things away…that we end up becoming the best persons that we can be,” Huckabee says.
Giving, Huckabee says, is exactly what the Salvation Army does every day.
Huckabee tells WMBD’s “Greg and Dan”, in the midst of tragedy, the Corps is nearly always the first on the ground, sharing his recollection as Arkansas’ governor.
“During my tenure, almost eleven years as governor, we had so many natural disasters…tornadoes, floods, ice storms, things that would inflict harm to a community and to its people. And, even sometimes before the first responders could get on the scene, the Salvation Army was already there,” Huckabee says.
The Salvation Army is also typically one of the last groups to leave in times of need, Huckabee adds.
Tickets to the Women’s Auxiliary’s “Hope Has An Army” at Venue Chisca are still available.
Doors will open Thursday (September 14) at 5:30 p.m. Dinner is at 6.
