PEORIA, Ill. – Gas prices are on a downward trend in central Illinois.
GasBuddy is reporting the Peoria-area average for unleaded is $3.83/g, down 5.2 cents from last week. The average is 2.4 cents cheaper than a month ago, and three cents higher than a year ago.
The cheapest price in Peoria, according to GasBuddy’s survey, is $3.62/g with the highest at $4.19/g.
AAA is reporting the average price in the Peoria-Pekin metro area is $3.86/g, down 4.7 cents from last week. The average is 0.6 cents higher than one month ago, and 2.8 cents cheaper than one year ago.
Both GasBuddy and AAA are reporting the state average is now below the $4 mark. GasBuddy’s Illinois average is down 6.3 cents to $3.95/g, while AAA is reporting an average of $3.98/g, down five cents from last week.
Analysts believe prices could continue to fall.
“There is some good news for those in the hardest hit states in the Midwest, however, as gasoline prices should start to level off and even decline by mid-week,” says GasBuddy head of petroleum analysis, Patrick De Haan. “And with most of the nation switching back to cheaper winter gasoline on Saturday, we should see more price decreases for most the nation in the weeks ahead, barring further refinery disruptions and hurricane season. Fall tends to bring falling gas prices, and I’m hoping this year won’t be any different.””
