UPDATED 12:53 p.m.
PEORIA, Ill. – A man has died after being shot in Peoria Monday night at the Phillips 66 gas station near the intersection of Sheridan and McClure.
Peoria Police say a ShotSpotter alert came in around 8:20 p.m., indicating nine shots were fired.
Officers arrived, finding the man down with gunshot wounds. He was taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Police Spokesperson Semone Roth says the man died shortly after being taken to the hospital.
Police have no suspects. The cause and manner of death will come from the Peoria County Coroner.
Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact the Peoria Police Department at (309) 673-4521, tip411 (anonymously), or Crime Stoppers (anonymously) at (309) 673-9000.
The death is being investigated as a homicide.
After initially telling WMBD News the death was the 20th homicide this year, Roth now says the death is the 19th homicide this year. Roth says that’s because a victim in the mass shooting on West Marquette August 30th is still alive, but “on a machine.”
