PEORIA, Ill. โ A Peoria man has been convicted of charges accusing him of killing his girlfriend, then leaving her in a burning home.
Court records indicate a jury Wednesday convicted Tahir Goodman, 29, of First-Degree Murder and Aggravated Arson.
Stateโs Attorney Jodi Hoosโ office says it took jurors only 90 minutes to return the guilty verdicts.
Goodman was arrested in early December of 2021 โ and prosecutors claim after just 45 days of he and JโNaysia Hobbs, 24, dating, Goodman felt,โdisrespected,โ strangling her to death then setting her home on East Virginia in the cityโs East Bluff on fire.
Goodman reportedly took the stand during the trial this week.
Sentencing is scheduled for November 16th. Goodman could face up to 60 years in prison on the murder charge, and up to another 30 years in prison on Aggravated Arson.
