PEORIA, Ill. – Residents of an apartment building in Central Peoria had to evacuate after a fire Monday afternoon in one of the apartments.
Peoria Fire crews responded to the Oak Woods Apartments, just off Joan Court, just after noon and arrived to find smoke throughout all four floors of the building.
The smoldering fire was located on a stove top and had spread to cabinets above the stove. The fire was put out by a water extinguisher.
Most of the building’s residents were able to evacuate on their own, but some needed assistance from fire crews.
One resident was displaced from their apartment and received housing assistance from the Red Cross.
There were no injuries, and the fire’s cause is under investigation. With smoke damage to the building, damage estimates are at $100,000.
