PEORIA, Ill. – The Peoria International Airport is getting federal money to expand air travel service to the west.
The airport says it has received $500,000 in federal funding through the Small Community Air Service Development Program, one of 20 communities nationwide to receive money.
The Metropolitan Airport Authority of Peoria says it will, in their words, guarantee that an airline will obtain a connection “through a western or southern hub on a business oriented airline.”
“Many of our top 50 destination cities are to the west, and the Peoria community has a lack of connecting flights in that direction,” said Gene Olson, airport director, in a news release. “Our businesses and partners need improved connections to the places they need to go. So, this potential for new service is a huge opportunity for our community.”
In addition to the half-million, another $238,000 was obtained for the project through marketing and airport matching funds.
