METAMORA, Ill. – Leaders in Metamora are discussing a new facility that can get people active all year long.
Village President John Cummings says the facility is planned on 135 acres of village-owned farmland south of Snyder Village. Planned amenities include indoor tracks, indoor swimming pools, and an exercise area.
Cummings says the facility could be a place used all year long, no matter the weather. And he says the indoor track could be a host for high school and college meets, citing the lack of one within the Peoria area.
He envisions the facility as a smaller version of Washington’s Five Points for the people of Woodford County.
“If you have it in Woodford County, that would be, y’know, Lowpoint, Washburn, Roanoke, Benson, places like that, would have a easy access to a facility that could be used for exercise, etc., etc.,” Cummings said.
Cummings says there have also been discussions on developing on the property. A solar farm is planned on a portion of the land. He says hotels, apartments, restaurants, and a public safety building could also go on the site.
The project has been in discussion for a few years, and Cummings says the idea is still in its early stages.
“Somebody asked if we were going to be doing this soon. There’s probably a lot more discussion that needs to be had, etc. etc., before we are moving forward with it at this point in time,” Cummings said. “But we’re still looking at it and trying to see if we can work out a way that something like that could be set up.”
Cummings says the main issues that still need to be sorted out include what the buildings at the facility will look like, and how much the cost of the project would be.
