PEORIA, Ill. – Peoria Police are so far only calling it a “death investigation” after a man was found down in a roadway early Saturday morning, after officers were sent to the area for a reported shooting.
Officers were sent to Thrush and Knoxville around 12:40 a.m. Saturday, where at least nine rounds were fired.
A police spokeswoman says an adult male was found down in the roadway and taken to a local hospital, where he later died.
The Peoria County Coroner is expected to release more details, including the man’s identity, and manner and cause of death.
Police did not say if they have a suspect, but do say their investigation is continuing.
If the cause of death were ruled to be a homicide, it would be Peoria’s 24th of the year, in a year which have seen reports of shootings increased in the city, but not homicides.
