PEORIA, Ill. – Peoria firefighters were called Tuesday night to a home on S. Matthew for a working fire.
Fire Battalion Chief Scott Strum says just after 9:30 p.m., crews found heavy fire and black smoke coming from the roof. Additional fire was found in the back of the second floor, as well as a significant amount of debris in the home and in the backyard.
Due to unstable conditions, crews were ordered out of the home. After most of the fire was out, a search found no one inside.
A fire investigator determined the cause of the fire was arson.
Due to structural instability, a demolition crew was called to the scene.
Two adults received temporary housing from the American Red Cross.
No injuries were reported.
Damage was estimated at $60,000.
