PEORIA, Ill. – Peoria Manual High School was placed on lockdown Tuesday morning after shots fired in the area hit the building.
Peoria Police says a vehicle was also struck after a total of 22 shots were fired between West Proctor and West Ann just after 11:00 A.M.
Officers didn’t locate any suspects or victims in either location, and no injuries have been reported.
Peoria Police says they will continue to work with Peoria Public School administrators and resource officers to ensure the safety of students and staff. Police will also have a high presence around the school during arrivals and dismissals.
PPS Superintendent Dr. Sharon Desmoulin-Kherat released a statement:
As iterated by the Peoria Police Department, Manual High School was briefly placed on lockdown this morning after the Peoria Police Department detected shots fired. Upon investigation, PPD discovered that the school building and a vehicle were struck.
While I am extremely saddened by the recent events, I am just as determined not to allow these external circumstances to outshine the excellence happening in our buildings each and every day. Every student deserves access to a safe and productive learning environment, and we will continue to utilize our strong partnerships and safety protocols to provide just that.

Peoria Police say a total of nearly two dozen rounds were fired between West Proctor and West Ann Streets, starting around 11 Tuesday morning.
No word on anyone being hurt, nor on any suspects.
