PEORIA, Ill. – The City of Peoria says license plate readers are working, so they’re going to buy more of them.
The Peoria City Council Tuesday night approved spending just over $200,000 for 71 more cameras under the first year of a two year agreement, and then another $177,000 in the second year, with potential for future grant funding to pay for them.
The city is already using 59 such cameras, and we have reported on arrests in vehicle thefts and other similar cases that were aided through the use of the readers, first started in February of last year.
The city council also approved upgrading ten of the Peoria Police SWAT Team’s Tasers at a cost of more than $45,000.
