PEORIA, Ill. โ A Peoria man who strangled his girlfriend to death then left her in a burning home will go to prison for the next half-century.
A judge Thursday sentenced 29-year-old Tahir Goodman to 53 years in the Department of Correction after being convicted two months ago of First-Degree Murder and Aggravated Arson.
Prosecutors say Goodman felt โdisrespectedโ in December of 2021, which led to the death of 24-year-old JโNaysia Hobbs.
Goodman could have faced up to 60 years in prison for the murder, and 30 years on the arson charge. A six year sentence ordered on the latter charge will be served concurrently.
