UPDATED 5:07 P.M.
PEORIA, Ill. – One person is dead in what Peoria Police says is the city’s 24th homicide of the year.
Police Monday released details of the incident reported Saturday morning. A man had been taken to the hospital after what officers learned was a shooting inside a residence on McReynolds Court, not far from MacArthur Highway.
The man was pronounced dead not long after that. Peoria County Coroner Jamie Harwood says Torlando Smith, 40, of Peoria, suffered multiple gunshot wounds, according to an autopsy.
No word on suspects, but police say the investigation continues.
There’s now one less homicide this year than all of last year, and ten less than the record year of 2021.
The homicide was one of six different weapons-related incidents Peoria Police addressed over the weekend.
