SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – Wolf Carbon Solutions says it still wants to build a carbon dioxide pipeline that would go directly through the Tri-Counties, but it won’t do it under the current application it has on file with the state.
In October, employees of the Illinois Commerce Commission recommended denying Wolf the permit that would allow for the pipeline’s construction.
25 News reports Monday, in a filing, the company says it is pulling its application, but will refile in order to address some of the concerns the commission had.
Among them, an agreement with Archer Daniels Midland that would have allowed for the line to run from Cedar Rapids, Iowa to Decatur, not being in place.
Residents have largely been in opposition to the pipeline.
“Wolf understands and respects the stringent regulatory review process for this project, and we appreciate the diligence of the ICC and its staff. We have made the decision to withdraw our current application, with the intent to refile in early 2024, to address the questions and concerns raised by ICC staff in their recommendation. This voluntary action does not impact our commitment to the project and its stakeholders, or the ongoing regulatory processes, including with the Iowa Utilities Board (IUB) and Army Corps of Engineers.” — Dean Ferguson, president of Wolf Carbon Solutions U.S., per 25 News
