CHICAGO, Ill. – State officials are sounding a cautionary alarm as they claim a few counties in Illinois, including in this area, are seeing an uptick of COVID-19 and respiratory virus cases.
The CDC says Peoria and Tazewell Counties are among 20 counties statewide that are at a “medium” level of hospitalizations due to COVID.
Peoria and Tazewell have 44 right now.
“As hospitalizations for COVID-19, RSV, and flu increase across Illinois, I want to encourage our residents to use all of the tools at their disposal to protect themselves and their loved ones this Thanksgiving Holiday weekend,” said IDPH Director Dr. Sameer Vohra, in a news release. “Vaccines for COVID-19, flu and RSV remain the most effective tool in preventing severe illness, but we can all take proper precautions to enjoy family, food, and fun while keeping those germs away.”
The Illinois Department of Public Health says RSV and flu cases are starting to go up as well, so they encourage staying up to date on the latest conditions in your area, and staying up to date on vaccinations.
They also say providing good indoor air ventilation, and practicing proper hygiene will also help.
