PEORIA, Ill. – A Peoria man is being charged with murder in connection with the city’s first homicide of the year Thursday.
Charges filed in Peoria County Circuit Court indicate David Stone, 39, faces a charge of First-Degree Murder. He is in the Peoria County Jail awaiting a detention hearing.
Stone is accused of firing a gun at a man whom Peoria County Coroner Jamie Harwood identifies as Arlin Bermudez, 34.
Police went to a home around 2:15 p.m. Thursday not far from Knoxville and Thrush in the Center Bluff on a report of a gunshot victim.
Harwood says Bermudez died about five hours later of multiple wounds, and an autopsy confirms that.
Stone was arrested in South Peoria several hours later with the help of a police SWAT Team, and also faces charges of Unlawful Possession of a Controlled Substance, Distribution of a Controlled Substance, Violation of Sex Offender Registry, and Unlawful Possession of a Weapon by a Felon.
There were 25 homicides in Peoria each of the last two years.
