PEORIA, Ill. – The Peoria Manual High School boys’ basketball team must forfeit two victories from the current season.
The Illinois High School Association says the forfeits are due to the use of an ineligible player in the two wins. The team has also been placed under probation.
The IHSA says the school did not complete the appropriate paperwork related to the student’s transfer to Manual. The student was also found to be academically ineligible, but has since become eligible.
Manual must forfeit wins against Edwardsville on November 25th, and Peoria Notre Dame on December 1st.
The full statement from the IHSA on the matter:
“The Illinois High School Association (IHSA) ruled that Manual High School must forfeit its varsity boys basketball victories on November 25, 2023 (vs. Edwardsville) and December 1, 2023 (vs. Peoria Notre Dame) due to use of an ineligible player in those contests. The school had not completed the appropriate eligibility paperwork related to the student-athlete’s transfer to Manual High School at the time of those contests, and that paperwork ultimately revealed that the student-athlete was academically ineligible at the time of those contests. The student-athlete has since become eligible. It is vital that our member schools have processes in place to properly vet transfer students who wish to compete in IHSA athletics to ensure they follow the proper channels to gain eligibility. As a result, Manual High School has been placed on IHSA probation. Probation does not deny the school or program any IHSA privileges at this time, but it does set the expectation that any further violations of IHSA rules could result in more serious consequences. We will support the school in any way that we can moving forward to help prevent a situation like this from reoccurring.”
Peoria Public School did not return requests for comment from WMBD Radio.
The Peoria Central High School football team was required to forfeit seven wins in November after they were found using an ineligible player.
