WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. House lawmakers on Thursday held a second and final impeachment hearing against Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas.
Fox News reports the House Homeland Security committee wanted written testimony from Mayorkas, but the DHS says Republicans “are not really interested” in hearing from him, calling it a “sham process.”
Committee Chair Mark Green argues Mayorkas has used “delay tactics” to avoid coming before his committee. Mayorkas’ team says there was a scheduling conflict.
To highlight the consequences of the border crisis, Republicans called Tammy Nobles to appear as a witness before the committee Thursday– her 20-year-old daughter was killed by an illegal immigrant minor who was previously arrested for being associated with MS-13.
Josephine Dunn, whose child died of a fentanyl overdose, also spoke.
Following Thursday’s hearing, the next step would be for the House Homeland Security committee to schedule a markup of the impeachment articles.
