PEORIA, Ill. – A Peoria man has been convicted of shooting and killing a man and injuring three others on the Fourth of July in 2021.
Peoria County Court records indicate a jury Thursday deliberated for a little more than an hour before finding Eric Jackson, 20, guilty of First Degree Murder and two counts of Aggravated Battery.
The jury found Jackson shot Michael Johnson II near Haungs and Madison in the Averyville area while sitting in the passenger seat of a parked car outside his home. Johnson died at a Peoria hospital two days later. Prosecutors say the driver of the car was shot in the back, and a third person sitting on the porch of the home was hit in the face.
Sentencing is scheduled for March 12th.
Jackson could face decades in prison.
Meanwhile, the Peoria County State’s Attorney’s Office says Jackson’s mother is serving a four year federal prison sentence for purchasing the gun Jackson used in the crime.
