PEKIN, Ill. – A Pekin man will spend most of the next 40 years in prison after he pleaded guilty to beating a man on Halloween of 2022, and who died the next month.
Tazewell County Court records indicate Kolby Kincade, 21, made the plea Friday morning to a single First-Degree Murder count. Aggravated Battery and Home Invasion counts were dismissed in exchange.
Kincade allegedly assaulted Richard Wass, 53, near Pine and Cyprus Streets in Pekin.
Wass died in November of 2022.
Kincade initially admitted to police he punched Wass in the face.
Kincade must serve the entire 40 years in prison, but will get 442 days worth of credit for time in jail.
“This plea is a direct result of the exemplary investigation conducted by the Pekin Police Department,” said Kevin Johnson, Tazewell County State’s Attorney, in a news release.
