PEORIA, Ill. – Two people have now been arrested in connection with an armed robbery attempt that resulted in the city’s second homicide of the year.
Peoria Police say while conducting a separate investigation Thursday, officers discovered Jaylyn Branscumb, 18, and took him in to custody, charging him with Armed Robbery.
Sontarrius Williams, 27, was arrested the day before on a charge of Armed Robbery.
The two allegedly were involved in the armed robbery of two people who had come to Peoria Jan. 15 to look at a car placed for sale on Facebook Marketplace.
When the two were led to an alleyway to look at the car, police say that’s when the robbery happened.
Gun shots fired during a scuffle led to the death of Marcus Whitehead, 18, of Bloomington.
It’s not clear who fired the shot that killed him, but another male involved wasn’t charged after he was found to be legally carrying his weapon.
