PEORIA, Ill. – Peoria officials say the city is ready if the flooding along the Illinois River at Peoria gets any worse.
Public Works officials say they’re monitoring river levels this week; this, after an ice jam near Chillicothe broke apart over the weekend, and the National Weather Service put out a flood warning until further notice.
The City and the National Weather Service say the river is forecast to crest at 22.5 feet in Peoria late Thursday night and into Friday morning.
If it goes up two-tenths of a foot more, the city says low-lying areas of Riverfront Park downtown could see some flooding.
Should that happen, the city says sandbagging will begin.
The city also says they don’t expect any impact to businesses on the Peoria riverfront, or to those on Water Street, but some parking lots and sidewalks could close.
