CHICAGO, Ill. – The pressure is building on Chicago’s mayor with thousands of migrants facing evictions starting this week.
Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker and city officials are calling for Mayor Brandon Johnson to again delay the evictions, which are supposed to start Wednesday, but so far Johnson hasn’t said what he’ll do.
Fox News reports that hundreds of migrants are still sleeping at Chicago O’Hare International Airport, as Senate Republicans are questioning whether housing migrants in airports violates federal funding requirements.
There are no migrants staying at Chicago’s Midway Airport or the bus landing zone, according to Fox News.
The State of Illinois has offered other municipalities up to $40 million to build shelters for migrants, but none of them have taken up the offer.
