EAST PEORIA, Ill. – East Peoria Mayor John Kahl is continuing to push a survey that’s going out that could help “brand” the city in the future.
Kahl, telling a group listening to his state of the City speech Friday, he hopes it will drive the city into the future, and drive negativity out.
“It will be our identity. It will be our ability to go out and attract new business, and attract residents, and retain the ones that we have,” said Kahl. “It’s about wins. I look at this region, and we have so many positive things. But, man, nobody talks about iot. Everybody talks about negative. We’ve got Debbie Downers and Negative Nancy’s.”
Kahl says he doesn’t like the word “progressive”, as many cities have identified themselves. If it were up to him, he’d prefer to use the word “transformative.”
Kahl, by the way, says the survey is through a consulting group, and is being paid for mostly with money that is not local tax dollars.
“They’re going to come back with a 300-page report, that comes to myself, and I’ll share it with the council,” said Kahl. “We’ll talk it over with staff, and then you choose – out of the things that they put together – what you want to do with it moving forward.
The survey should be available the rest of the month, and results and the full report will be ready in October.
