PEORIA, Ill. – Peoria Police have released more details regarding the case of the 16-year-old male who was charged Monday in relation to a school shooting attempt that was thwarted.
Police say a tip was received on February 1st by deputies in Vermillion County of the possible school shooting threat. An investigation centered around the 16-year-old from Peoria, along with two males and a female from Vermillion County.
Peoria Police say detectives were aware of the 16-year-old after a school shooting threat from last year, but no charges were brought against the teen in that incident.
Detectives went to the teenager’s house the same day and placed him under arrest on a Felony Disorderly Conduct charge, and taken to the Peoria County Juvenile Detention Center, where he remains.
Police also reached out to District 150 administrators during their investigation, though authorities have not named any specific schools that were targeted.
The 16-year-old was charged with Making a Terrorist Threat, a Class X felony; Disorderly Conduct, a Class Four felony; and Conspiracy, a Class One felony.
Peoria County State’s Attorney Jodi Hoos says a petition will be filed to try and move the case to adult court, and to try the teenager as an adult.
Peoria Police say the case is under investigation.

PEORIA, Ill. – A Peoria teenager has received multiple charges after police thwarted a school shooting attempt.
Peoria County State’s Attorney Jodi Hoos says Peoria Police detectives received a tip from another county about the attempt.
A 16-year-old and two other teenagers from another county were reportedly planning the shooting out on the chat messaging program Discord.
The discussions allegedly involved stockpiling of weapons.
Hoos says a 29-page journal was recovered by police; which reportedly featured drawings, building layouts, and research into potential charges and the juvenile court system.
The 16-year-old is charged with Making a Terrorist Threat, a Class X felony; Disorderly Conduct, a Class Four felony; and Conspiracy, a Class One felony. The teen is in custody of the Peoria County Juvenile Detention Center.
Hoos says the state’s attorney’s office has filed a petition to try the teen as an adult.
She says no other details are available because the offender is a juvenile, and an investigation continues.
