NEW YORK (FOX News) – Officials in New York have announced indictments against seven migrants who attacked two New York Police Department officers in Times Square.
FOX News reports five of the migrants will be facing felony charges for their roles in the attack.
Five of the seven were arrested last week, but released without bail. Only one suspect is in custody.
An NYPD lieutenant and officers suffered injuries in the attack, where they were stomped and kicked on January 27th. The lieutenant was attempting to apprehend a suspect on the ground.
Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg denied reports the suspects involved have fled to California.
New York City Mayor Eric Adams says the attacks have had an impact on the city and police department.
“This was a despicable act. It was not only an attack on the individuals who wore the police uniform, but it was an attack on our symbol of justice,” Adams said.
Charges against two of the suspects remain sealed.
