BARTONVILLE, Ill. – Parents of Limestone Community High School and Oak Grove Elementary School students were alerted Wednesday night of an online threat that Bartonville Police have now determined was not credible.
According to a text sent out to parents by Limestone Principal Keith Brown, an outdated Snapchat threat resurfaced, which appears to have come from out-of-state.
“We are aware of a Snapchat post circulating our community. Upon learning of the post, we immediately involved local law enforcement. It appears the post is tied to an out-of-state school from an incident years ago. The Snapchat image is from an outdated version of that platform. There is nothing tying the post to LCHS, Oak Grove, or Bartonville in general. While there is no credible threat to our school or community, we will continue to work with local law enforcement to investigate the origin of the post on a local student Snapchat group and determine who may be involved. Thank you to those who shared the message – we are committed to school safety and it takes a commitment from everyone. We appreciate everyone’s communication regarding this incident and will keep you apprised of any further information.”
School administrators notified police of the threat, who notified the appropriate agencies.
An investigation into the origin of the threat is ongoing.
