PEORIA, Ill. – She calls it the coolest thing she’s ever done, but she doesn’t want it to be the coolest thing she ever will do.
Bradley University student Bri Jefferson got the chance to be an intern at the Super Bowl. She returned to Peoria from the ten-day internship Tuesday.
Jefferson – a Galesburg resident who’s majoring in Business Management and wants to become a front office executive for a sports franchise – says the people she spent the last ten days with are what made the experience memorable.
“Networking horizontally, and being able to form bonds and relationships with people who are going to grow at the same time as you, is even more important,” said Jefferson. “You’re going to be able to use those resources for life. They are going to go through big things; you are going to go through big things.”
Although, Jefferson says, the game helped.
Jefferson was selected in a competitive process through an organization called “Living Sport” for an internship that put her inside Allegiant Air Stadium on game day.
Jefferson works with Bradley Athletic Director Chris Reynolds and others, all of whom she said were incredibly supportive of her going for the experience.
“They’re, honestly, so excited for me. I had to e-mail and text a lot of pictures this week,” said Jefferson. “Everybody’s waiting for me to get back on Thursday and tell all about my trip. I’m really excited to go see everyone and tell everything.”
Jefferson says yes, she got to see the game, but she also, among other things, got the chance to listen to well-known sports agent David Meltzer speak.
“It was really, really cool to hear from him,” said Jefferson. “We got an autographed book from him. It’s also one of those once-in-a-lifetime experiences. Not many people get to hear from David Meltzer a lot.”
Meltzer, in addition to being a sports agent, is also a known motivational speaker.
In the ten days she spent in Las Vegas, Jefferson says she also got to go on a horseback ride, and take in many of the same fan experiences others did.
On game day Sunday, Jefferson was based on the suite level of Allegiant Stadium, but on the opposite end of a certain female singer dating a certain Kansas City Chiefs player; though Jefferson says she could at least see Taylor Swift.
Jefferson says the game and the overtime were exciting, though she did hear a number of San Francisco fans crying when the Chiefs scored a touchdown at the end of overtime to win.
She also says she was invited to intern at next year’s Super Bowl in New Orleans, and likely can’t say no to that opportunity.
