PEORIA, Ill. – A third suspect has been arrested after a failed armed robbery attempt last month that turned fatal.
Peoria Police say they arrested Keshawn Williams, 18, Thursday on a charge of Armed Robbery – the same charge Jalyn Branscumb, 18, and Sontarrius Williams, 27, both face after being arrested in January and later charged by a grand jury.
The three allegedly were involved in a hold-up stemming from two people coming to Peoria a month ago to look at car posted for sale on Facebook Marketplace – one that investigators believe didn’t actually exist.
When the two were directed to an alleyway, a fight broke out along with shots.
The melee claimed the life of Marcus Whitehead, 18, of Bloomington.
A suspected shooter isn’t being charged because he had a legal permit to carry his gun.
Court records indicate a judge Friday afternoon ordered Keshawn Williams held in jail until a trial. His next court date is not clear.
Sontarrius Wiliams will next be in court for a hearing Feb. 29, while Branscumb will be arraigned on the same date.
