PEORIA, Ill. – The victim in Peoria’s third homicide of the year has now been identified by the Peoria County Coroner.
Coroner Jamie Harwood says Denarius Barnett, 37, of West Peoria was pronounced dead at the scene of a stabbing just after 10:30 P.M. Tuesday.
Jeremy Barnett, 31, has been arrested in connection to the stabbing, which occurred in the area of West Virginia, in between Isabell and Broadway just before 10:00 P.M. Peoria Police say he is charged with First Degree Murder.
Harwood says an autopsy revealed Denarius Barnett suffered a single stab wound to the chest. He suffered detrimental internal trauma and bleeding, likely dying seconds after the stabbing occurred.
The case remains under investigation.

PEORIA, Ill. – A Peoria man is jailed for Peoria’s third homicide of the year.
Peoria Police say it happened just before 10:00 p.m. Tuesday on West Virginia Avenue inbetween Isabell and Broadway, in the area of Central Peoria and the West Bluff.
Police say a man was found down from a stab wound to the chest, and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The victim has not yet been identified, pending an autopsy, but police say Jeremy Barnett , 31, was taken to the Peoria County Jail pending a court appearance on a charge of First Degree Murder.
It’s not clear what may have led up to the stabbing.

Another man was taken into custody, but they did not say what charges he may face.
Police say they expect more details to come out later Wednesday. This could be Peoria’s third reported homicide this year.
