PEORIA COUNTY, Ill. – Three people are dead, and one more person is injured, after an accident in Peoria County Saturday afternoon.
Illinois State Police say the three-vehicle crash happened around 2:30 p.m. Saturday near U.S. 6 and IL Route 29.
Troopers say a van traveling southbound failed to stop at a red light, striking a pickup and a sport utility vehicle in what they described as a chain reaction crash. The van’s driver was pronounced dead. The people in the SUV were also pronounced dead.
Peoria County Coroner Jamie Harwood says all three victims were pronounced dead at a Peoria hospital.
The pickup driver suffered minor injuries and was also taken to a hospital, according to State Police.
Harwood says more details will be released Sunday.
Illinois State Police is still investigating. The intersection was shut down for nearly three hours when the crash occurred.
