PEORIA, Ill. – A major pathway in Peoria’s East Bluff will receive much needed improvements.
The Peoria City Council unanimously approved at Tuesday’s meeting around $4.6 million to reconstruct Wisconsin Ave. between Nebraska and McClure. $3 million of the funding comes from state grants.
The work involves the reconstruction of the road, along with installing new sidewalks on the west side of the road, and a multi-use path on the east side.
The city has had the project in the budget since 2022, but 3rd District Councilman Tim Riggenbach says discussions on fixing Wisconsin go as far back as 2011, when he talked to business owners about how to improve the area.
“That’s when we started talking about the need for improvements. The fact that there’s two schools, Von Steuben Middle School, as well as Glen Oak Learning Center, that will be connected by this improvement, just adds to it, along with the hope for future economic development,” Riggenbach said.
The city is planning similar work between McClure and Forrest Hill, but will have that work done on a separate contract.
Council also approved a pay raise for City Manager Patrick Urich. The 3% raise increases his base salary to $220,149.83 annually. Urich also received a longevity bonus of $5,000.
