PEKIN, Ill. – The former Bergner’s location at East Court Village in Pekin is receiving a facelift.
Cullinan Properties announced on Thursday the property is being redeveloped to make way for Five Below and Maurices to occupy it, with more businesses to soon be announced.
Five Below is a discount retailer that sells products for $5 or less, while Maurices specializes in women’s clothing. Both stores have Peoria locations; with Five Below at Glen Hollow Shopping Center, and Maurices in Northwoods Mall.
The two stores will occupy about 42,000 square feet of retail space.
Other businesses in the area include Tractor Supply, Petco, and Hobby Lobby.
Cullinan had approached the city of Pekin last July about developing East Court Village and having three anchor stores, with Five Below being mentioned as one of the possible businesses. Cullinan had asked for $9 million at the time to help with redevelopment funding.
“These exciting new tenants for East Court Village could not have been made possible without the City of Pekin’s support,” says Cullinan Chairman Diane Cullinan Oberhelman. “Mayor Mary Burress, City Manager John Dossey, Economic Director Josh Wray and the entire City Council have been great to work with. Their collaboration was vital in securing these new tenants and will catapult the City and Tazewell County as another premier shopping destination in the region. We are excited to continue being a part of this great community.”
Cullinan’s Chief Investment Officer Toni Ramadani says the redevelopment will give residents and visitors more shopping options, and provide a boost to Pekin’s economy.
City Manager John Dossey recently says the opening of the stores will bring additional sales tax revenue jobs to Pekin.
