PEORIA, Ill. – The Republican and Democratic Presidential primaries may already be decided, but there are still issues and races you can help decide Tuesday on the ballot in the tri-county area.
The Illinois Primary Election is Tuesday, and as you may have been hearing about, not too many candidate races are contested.
There are three Republicans looking to become 37th District State Senator: Li Arellano, Chris Bishop, and Tim Yager. Yager was endorsed by Congressman Darin LaHood. LaHood, by the way, is so far unopposed for another term in Congress.
There are four Republicans looking to be State Senator in the 53rd District, and incumbent State Representative Dennis Tipsword again has a Republican challenger for his seat in the 105th District, again in Don Rients.
In the 17th Congressional District, either Rockford’s Judge Joe McGraw or Milan farmer Scott Crowl will go on to face incumbent East Moline Democratic incumbent Eric Sorensen.
The candidates decided on Tuesday will move on to the November election.
Voters throughout the Tri-Counties do have various questions to answer, perhaps to – in some cases – make up for the lack of opposed candidates on the primary election ballot Tuesday.
West Peoria voters will be asked if they want to implement a special tax levy for an ambulance service, and also whether the fire protection district tax levy should increase.
Voters in Tazewell County are being asked whether a monument should be erected to honor soldiers and sailors in the county who’ve received the Medal of Honor.
In Woodford County, voters in Olympia Schools are being asked to approve two tax increases – one for the Operations and Maintenance Tax Levy, the other for the district’s education fund.
The Metamora Grade School district is also asking voters to increase its tax levies, in what officials say could save the district.
Polls are open from 6:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. Tuesday. Tune in to 1470 & 100.3 WMBD, WMBDRadio.com, and our social media platforms to get updates on results after the polls close.
