UPDATE
PEORIA, Ill. – Human remains discovered in Peoria County have been identified as those of a Peoria man reported missing just over three years ago.
Peoria County Coroner Jamie Harwood said “through distinctive and unique evidence,” the skeletal remains were identified as Gabriel K. Cook, 34. Cook’s family reported him missing in March 2021.
The Peoria County Sheriff’s Office and the Coroner’s office were called to the 2700 block of N. Ellory Rd. in rural Peoria County around 2 p.m. Saturday after the remains were discovered the property owner. The sheriff’s office said the property owner was clearing brush from his property when the remains were discovered.
Cook’s family has been notified that Cook was “irrefutably identified,” according to Harwood. An autopsy is scheduled for Monday. Harwood hopes answers that still exist concerning Cook’s death may answered following the autopsy.

The Peoria County Sheriff’s Office says a man clearing brush from his property in the 5600 block of Pottstown Road found the remains around 2:00 p.m. Saturday.
The sheriff’s office and the Peoria County Coroner’s Office are working on an identification.
No other details have been released.
