PEORIA, Ill. – This time each year, you start seeing a lot of school buses in downtown Peoria…and music coming from the Peoria County Courthouse Plaza.
Thousands of students are again performing this year as part of the Gerald M. Brookhart Arts in Education Spring Celebration.
“We are in our second week, we started last Monday, the 22nd. We kicked off at the Peoria Riverfront Museum, they were great hosts…then we moved to the Peoria Courthouse last Tuesday, and I will tell you what…we have seen some phenomenal talent,” says retired educator Dave Poehls.
Poehls tells WMBD’s “Greg and Dan Show”, the GMB Arts in Education Spring Celebration has been showcasing the artistic talents of local students for over 30 years.
“Any bit of research will tell you that involvement in the Arts leads to more engagement and more attendance, and we’re seeing it. And, I just want to say what a vibrant Arts community we have…and we just want people to come downtown and see what these kids are doing,” Poehls says.
Performances and art displays at the Peoria Courthouse Plaza will continue each weekday through May 15th, weather permitting.
The GMB Arts in Education Spring Celebration features the talents of students from 136 schools in seven counties performing each spring.
