PEORIA, Ill. – Peoria firefighters were called early Friday morning to a home on N. Indiana on reports of smoke in the basement.
Fire Battalion Chief Tom Stimeling says just after 12:30 a.m., crews found smoke coming from the front of the home and a fire in the basement.
Additional crews searched the home finding no one inside. They learned a resident and his pet had gone to a neighbor’s home after calling 911.
A fire investigator determined the fire was unintentional.
The resident, who was displaced by the fire, was taken by AMT to OSF Saint Francis Medical Center for an evaluation of pre-existing conditions at the resident’s request.
Damage to the home is estimated at $7,500.
