PEORIA, Ill. – A man has pleaded guilty for a shooting last year at a tavern in West Peoria.
The Peoria County State’s Attorney’s Office says 43-year-old Anthony Gates pleaded guilty Tuesday to a charge of Aggravated Battery for a shooting at Mike’s Tavern that injured an employee.
Prosecutors say the shooting occurred before midnight on September 9th, when Gates was reportedly drunk and causing problems in the outdoor patio area.
An employee had asked Gates to leave and forced him out of the patio exit.
While Gates was outside on the street several feet away, he reportedly pulled out a .22 Derringer and fired it three times towards the bar, hitting the employee and causing a minor injury.
Gates was found a few blocks away after the employee gave a description of Gates, and the gun used was found hidden in a storm drain across the street where he was taken into custody.
Gates was sentenced to 10 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections, and must serve 85% of it.
