PEORIA, Ill. – A Peoria home was heavily damaged by a kitchen fire Wednesday evening, displacing a couple who lived there.
Peoria Fire Battalion Chief Ryan Calhoun says a dog was rescued from the basement of the home on W. Parkwood Drive. No one was injured.
One resident was home when the fire broke out just before 5:30 p.m., but he got out safely before firefighters arrived.
The Red Cross is helping the residents with temporary housing.
It took crews about 10 minutes to put out the fire, but it caused an estimated $95,000 damage.
An investigator said the fire was caused by a cooking accident.
